Hydro Jetting in Eden Prairie
Hydro jetting cleans the inside of a drain pipe with high-pressure water instead of just punching a hole through the clog. It is most useful for grease, sludge and recurring buildup, and less necessary for a simple one-time clog.

What hydro jetting actually is
A jetting machine pushes water through a flexible hose with a nozzle on the end. The nozzle has jets that point backward and sideways, so the water both pulls the hose down the line and scrubs the pipe wall as it goes.
Residential jetters are typically run at a few thousand PSI, adjusted for the pipe size and condition. The loosened grease, scale and debris flush down to the city sewer. The result is a pipe that is closer to its original diameter rather than just a channel through the middle of a clog.
Snaking versus jetting
A snake, or cable machine, spins a cutting head through the blockage. It is fast, works for most everyday clogs, and is usually the cheaper first step. The tradeoff is that it can leave buildup coating the pipe walls, so the drain may slow down again.
Jetting takes more setup and usually costs more, but it removes the coating as well as the clog. Many plumbers will snake a line first to restore flow, then recommend jetting if they find heavy grease or if the camera shows buildup along the pipe.
When jetting is worth it
Jetting tends to pay off when the same drain clogs over and over. Kitchen lines packed with grease, main lines with root debris after cutting, and commercial-style buildup from a busy household are all good candidates.
It can also make sense as maintenance on a line known to have problems, such as a main line with roots that are cut back on a schedule. If you are paying for a cable clearing every few months, ask a plumber whether jetting would stretch the time between calls.
When it is not the right call
For a single hair clog in a bathroom sink or a toy stuck in a toilet, jetting is usually overkill. A hand auger or small cable machine handles those faster and for less money.
Jetting can also be a poor fit for pipe that is already badly damaged. High-pressure water can make a cracked or deteriorated section worse. That is why many plumbers run a camera first on older lines before recommending it, and you can ask for that step.
Questions to ask before you say yes
Ask what the plumber expects to find and why jetting is a better fit than snaking for your line. Ask whether the price includes a camera inspection before and after, and whether you can see the footage.
Also ask where they will access the line. Jetting usually works through a cleanout, and if your cleanout is hard to reach, that can affect time and cost. A plumber serving Eden Prairie should quote the job before starting.
Common questions
Is hydro jetting safe for older pipes?
Often yes, at the right pressure, but not always. Cast iron in poor condition or cracked clay and plastic can be damaged. A camera inspection first lets the plumber decide whether jetting is safe for your line.
How long does hydro jetting take?
A typical residential line often takes an hour or two including setup, though long runs, heavy roots or hard access can take longer. Your plumber can give a better estimate once they see the line.
Will jetting get rid of tree roots for good?
No. Jetting can clear root debris and thin roots, but roots usually grow back through the same joints. Long-term fixes involve repairing or lining the pipe; jetting is maintenance.
Can I rent a jetter myself?
Small jetter attachments for pressure washers exist, but high-pressure water near sewage is risky, and it is easy to damage pipe or get sprayed with wastewater. For main lines, a plumber near you with proper equipment is the safer choice.
